Healing Foundation
The Stolen Generation was and still is a dark chapter in this nation’s history. The trauma from the forced removal of Indigenous children from their families was felt far and wide — and decades later, Indigenous Australians are still feeling the impact.
The brief
Over a third of Indigenous Australians are descendants of the Stolen Generation. They experience adversity in the form of chronic health issues, economic and social disadvantage as symptoms of intergenerational trauma. As a way to help break the cycle, we worked closely with the Healing Foundation to create a moving educational video and open eyes.
The good
With such a sensitive topic, this was as much about respect as it was about education. So we found a way to create a motion graphic that told the story of trauma in a compelling and compassionate way. Centred around the graphic device of beating hearts, and narrated by iconic talent and Aboriginal elder, Uncle Jack Charles, the result was a moving, beautiful piece with deep insight into generations of hurt.
The impact
The more that people know about intergenerational trauma and its lasting impact, the more we can begin to help heal as a nation. Small, yet very important steps.
