Uniting Australia through connection and culture

Australian Government Department of Communications and the Arts

When it comes to reconciliation, perspective is key to understanding and conviction is required in the doing. Through commissioning an original artwork telling the story from an aerial perspective, Carbon created the Reconciliation Action Plan for the Australian Government Department of Communications and the Arts.

The brief

Bringing to life a Reconciliation Action Plan was is a big responsibility. Working with the Federal Department of Communications and the Arts, we set about capturing the sentiment and vision of their reconciliation journey in a visually engaging and meaningful way.

The good

Carbon commissioned, talented Noongar artist, Bradley Kickett, to create an artwork that represented the Department’s reconciliation themes — connection and expression. From an aerial perspective, the artist was able to communicate culture and 60,000 years of history on a grand scale.

The impact

His work, Connecting for Reconciliation is the past, present and future of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people together with other cultures across land, sea and sky. From the artwork through to the contemporary design, layout and print, the Department’s RAP vision is an instrument to guide and shape reconciliation in action.
